ITE hearing aids are the largest one-piece hearing aid. Their size enables them to be used by most people, even those with severe hearing problems as well as sight or dexterity challenges. They are custom made and sculpted to fit in either the lower half or all of your outer ear. Also, they directly connect to mobile phones and other Bluetooth devices. This allows you to take and receive calls, listen to music and watch tv. We sometimes add a small, clear cord to help with removal where necessary.

ITEs use directional microphones. This is the main technology used to help wearers separate speech from background sounds in noisy environments. They also tend to work well on the phone due to the microphone being place in the ear. The ITE can fit most hearing conditions, from mild to severe. We can also fit wireless modules and telecoils, enabling you to use loop systems or connect to mobile phones and other technological devices.

The ITE usually uses are larger battery than the Invisible-In-The-Canal (IIC), Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC), or In-The-Canal (ITC). This will typically last 10 to 14 days depending on usage.  Due to their larger size, there are rarely issues with these devices working free when chewing or talking.

As the ITE sits further up the ear canal than an IIC, CIC or ITC, some people will notice a more pronounced occlusion effect. This is the feeling of something blocking your ear, causing a reverberation of your own voice. However, our audiologists can usually improve this issue by using vents that allow noise to pass through the hearing aid.

Like the name implies, these also sit in the ear canal. They are a touch bigger than the IIC but someone would still need to be looking pretty hard to spot one.
