Our Process
National Chain Process
Step 1
Initial Assessment
Comprehensive 90-Minute Appointment
Your first visit with Matt includes a detailed conversation and a series of professional hearing tests, all designed to give a complete picture of your hearing health.
Personalised Consultation
Matt will begin by discussing your medical history and how hearing loss affects your daily life. To help tailor your care, you’ll complete a short questionnaire about your lifestyle, listening environments, and specific needs.
Video Otoscopy and Ear Examination
Matt will perform a Video Otoscopy (an examination of the ear canal using a small camera) to check the condition of your ears and remove any wax if necessary.
Functional Hearing Tests
To assess your hearing accurately, Matt will complete three key tests:
- A Pure Tone Audiogram (standard hearing test) in a soundproof room
- A Speech Understanding Test in a quiet environment
- A Speech Understanding Test in an artificially noisy environment
Together, these results provide a precise understanding of your hearing and form the foundation for your personalised care plan.
National Chain Process
Step 1
Initial Assessment
Shorter Initial Consultation
At larger national chains, appointments are typically shorter, focusing on your medical history rather than exploring how hearing loss affects your daily life. This can make it more difficult to tailor recommendations to your specific lifestyle and listening needs.
Standard Ear Examination
An otoscopy is performed to check the ear canal, often using a standard optical otoscope rather than a video camera. Wax, a common cause of hearing difficulties, may not be removed without booking a separate appointment.
Basic Hearing Test
Testing generally includes one functional assessment – the Pure Tone Audiogram – which provides useful baseline data but less insight into how you hear in different environments.
Restricted Hearing Aid Range
Recommendations are usually made from a smaller range of products linked to specific manufacturers, which may limit flexibility in choosing the most suitable solution.
Step 2
Fitting
Comprehensive 60-Minute Appointment
Your fitting appointment lasts around an hour, giving Matt time to explain how to use, care for, and maintain your new hearing system in detail.
Precision Fine-Tuning
Matt measures the performance of your hearing aids once fitted to your ears to ensure they’re calibrated precisely for your hearing needs. This is the most accurate and effective way to optimise performance.
Gentle Introduction
If you’re new to hearing aids, we’ll start with a slightly lower amplification level. This helps your ears and brain adjust naturally to the new sounds around you.
Ongoing Support and Acclimatisation
Your hearing experience is refined over several appointments as Matt gradually adjusts your settings. This step-by-step approach allows time for natural acclimatisation and provides opportunities to ask questions, receive tailored advice, and build confidence using your new system.
National Chain Process
Step 2
Fitting
Shorter Appointment Duration
Fitting appointments are typically around 45 minutes or less. Some large chains combine testing and fitting into a single 90-minute visit, allowing limited time for detailed explanation or adjustment.
Pre-Set Device Programming
Hearing aids are often fitted using manufacturer-recommended default settings rather than being fine-tuned in-ear for individual verification and precision.
Full Amplification from the Start
Amplification is usually set to the full target level immediately, which can make early listening experiences more challenging for first-time users.
Single Information Session
All guidance and product information are typically provided in one session. This approach offers less opportunity for gradual learning, acclimatisation, or follow-up questions over multiple visits.
Step 3
Follow ups
Three Dedicated 30-Minute Consultations
As you adjust to your improved hearing, you’ll have three follow-up appointments with Matt. These sessions ensure your hearing system continues to perform at its best and that you feel confident using it day to day.
Continued Education and Fine-Tuning
Each follow-up is an opportunity to refine your hearing experience. Matt will continue to fine-tune your devices, making small adjustments as your ears adapt, to achieve optimal hearing outcomes.
Proactive, Ongoing Support
We take a proactive approach to hearing care, not a reactive one. These appointments provide time to ask questions, receive clear guidance on maintenance and use, and gain hands-on support directly from your specialist.
National Chain Process
Step 3
Follow ups
Single Follow-Up Appointment
Most national chains offer one follow-up consultation to check basic function and reinforce maintenance instructions. Appointment times are generally shorter, and additional review sessions are not routinely scheduled.
Step 4
Ongoing aftercare
Six-Monthly Reviews
Because hearing can change gradually over time, you’ll return for a check-up every six months. Matt will repeat your hearing test annually and make any fine-tuning adjustments needed to keep your hearing aids performing perfectly.
Convenient Repair and Support Service
If your hearing aids ever need attention, we offer a same-day repair service on-site or by post whenever possible. Should your devices require external servicing, Matt will provide temporary loan aids to ensure you’re never without hearing support.
National Chain Process
Step 4
Ongoing aftercare
Reactive Service Model
Aftercare is typically provided when a client requests assistance rather than being scheduled proactively. Some providers offer an annual check-up, but regular reviews, fine-tuning, or same-day support services are uncommon.
